DiSC® Role Behavior Analysis
Role Behavior Analysis Report (RBA): You’ll also want to consider the cutting-edge Role Behavior Analysis Report and RBA Comparison Report.
The Role Behavior Analysis (RBA) is definitely the hidden gem in the treasure chest of DiSC! While DiSC Reports analyze an individual’s behavior, the Role Behavior Analysis (RBA) profiles the behavioral demands of a given job.
Another way to think of this is that in any job we take on a number of roles. For instance, many of the managers that I work with have the following roles, or some combination thereof:
- Manages employees
- Member of an executive committee
- Negotiates with Vendors
- Communicates with prospects and customers
When should you use an RBA? When you or your client are:
- Clarifying a job description
- Creating behavioral interview questions for more effective hiring
- Eliminating confusion or conflict between a supervisor and employee
- Creating a new position
- Developing a training program for a specific job or role
A single RBA can be run, but when you look at the manager’s job (above) it’s easy to see 4 different roles. You could produce a single RBA for the job, but by looking at the behavioral demands of each role you can begin to help that manager be more effective, a stronger leader, have less stress, and find more satisfaction in their work.
The RBA consists of 8 sets of sentences. Each set includes a behavioral statement from each DiSC Dimension – D, I, S and C. The respondent(s) rank order the 4 statements based on the most to least need for each behavior in the target Role.
The RBA is simple for your clients to complete. There are several different methods you can recommend:
- The manager can evaluate their perspective of the specific Role
- If there is someone in the role currently, whom the manager wishes he/she could clone, the manager can respond based on that person’s behavior.
- Two or more people can respond together, taking the time to come to consensus on their answers. (Case study on using this with boss & employee to better understand each other’s position).
- Any combination of the above used to see where there is agreement or confusion.
